B.Tech – Course, Fees, Eligibility

What is B.Tech?

The full version of B.Tech is Bachelor of Technology. In India, it is a very popular undergraduate programme. A Bachelor of Technology degree is frequently seen as an entry point into the engineering profession. Depending on the nation and the school, the Btech course takes three to four years to complete. In India, it takes four years, divided into eight semesters, to complete a degree. Depending on the type of institute and course requested, BTech course costs range from Rs. 1 to Rs. 4 lakh annually.

B.Tech Eligibility

Students must pass the 10+2 science stream exam from any board to be eligible for admission to B.Tech. programmes. Having the PCM (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) group as the core subjects is encouraged for students who are interested in or hope to enter a B.Tech. programme because applicants from this subject group are preferred for the programme.

The technique indicated above is the standard way to enter the programme, however there is also a second way, which is through a lateral entry strategy. Students who have completed a diploma in engineering are qualified to participate in a Bachelor of Technology degree in the second year thanks to the lateral entrance plan. The lateral entry scheme is designed for students who joined or are enrolled in diploma programmes after finishing grades 10 or 10+2 in a variety of technical trades with the intention of being admitted to B.Tech. programmes offered by various engineering institutes and colleges throughout India in the second year.

B.Tech Admissions

Since engineers are among the highest-paid professionals in the world, particularly in western nations, it is understandable that many Indians aspire to work in the engineering industry. Many people enrol in engineering programmes because they want to work in high-paying professions. In India, the majority of science students aspire to become engineers. As a result, it is extremely difficult to get accepted into India’s top engineering institutions.

There are several entrance exams or tests for Bachelor of Technology or B.Tech. programmes administered in institutes around the nation to make sure that only the finest are given admission.

Entrance exams like JEE Main, JEE Advanced, BITSAT, and AP EAMCET aid institutions in selecting students based on merit. According to their 10+2 curricula, these entrance exams examine prospective engineering students on the fundamentals of engineering. Prior to being admitted to the B.Tech. programme, candidates are chosen based on their performances in the aforementioned entrance exams and put through further screening procedures.

Top B.Tech Exams

For admission to B.Tech. programmes provided by different institutes, there are numerous entrance exams. There are three types of entrance exams: national level entrance exams, state level entrance exams, and institution-specific entrance exams. We will categorise and describe the admission exams in this section based on national, state, and institute-specific exams.

National Level Examination for B.Tech

Entrance exams at the national level are those that are planned and executed to identify the most qualified candidates for admission to public engineering schools at the national level. Some private institutions also accept and take into account test results, and they use the results of these entrance exams as part of the admissions process for their B. Tech. programmes.

The following are the two most significant national entrance exams:-

JEE MAIN

JEE Main is a national level engineering entrance examination that is used for selecting and screening those individuals who are looking to gain admission to B.Tech. courses in institutes such as National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). Yet, a lot of public and private colleges also accept JEE Main scores for admission. The JEE Main entrance exam also serves as a JEE Advanced eligibility test.

JEE ADVACED

The screening test for applicants to the Indian Institute of Technology is called JEE Advanced (IITs).. The top 2,50,000 JEE Main applicants would be considered eligible to take the JEE Advanced exam.

State Level Examination For B.Tech

Some states hold state-level entrance exams for B.Tech. programmes offered by government institutions, which are similar to national-level exams. Once more, several private colleges accept the results of these entry exams. The list below includes a few of the state-level entrance tests.

WEBJEE

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Exams Board administers the West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam (WBJEEB). It is organised for students who want to enrol in the undergraduate engineering programmes provided by the participating institutes.

Skill Required for B.Tech Course

An engineer needs to be socially and emotionally intelligent in addition to having excellent technical skills. Compassion, empathy, insights, knowledge, reasoning, and competence must all mix. Engineering is a career that someone could consider if they have a creative, innovative mind that wants to go further into issues and use logical thinking and reasoning. During its four-year comprehensive study programme, B. Tech teaches both interpersonal and common and practical technological abilities. Students’ teamwork is fostered, they become more exact and precise, their communication skills are enhanced, and they learn resilience and self-control.

B.Tech - Advantages

A curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Technology has many benefits. those who are fascinated by invention or who are curious about how tools, machines, or software are created. A Bachelor of Technology curriculum has been created for them in order to give them the best professional options. You can choose from a variety of specialisations, including a B.Tech in computer science and engineering, a B.Tech in textile engineering, a B.Tech in mechanical engineering, a B.Tech in electronics and communication engineering, and many other specialisations, depending on your interests.

Scope of B.Tech

Engineers are those who have successfully completed their BTech programme. Engineers will have a prefix added depending on their specialisation. For instance, someone who has completed both computer science and engineering will be referred to as a computer engineer, while someone who has completed nuclear science will be referred to as a nuclear engineer. B.Tech graduates have two options: they can either begin working or continue their education by earning a master’s degree and beyond.

Career Opportunities after B.Tech

Following completion of a B.Tech., the following job options are listed according to the specialisations chosen by candidates:

1.Computer Science Engineer :- A person who develops, tests, and evaluates the software that powers computers is sometimes referred to as a computer engineer. They frequently contribute to the creation of software and video games.

2. Mechanical Engineer :- Machines that generate power are the main focus of mechanical engineers. Electric generators, internal combustion engines, turbines, freezers, and even air conditioning units are examples of these equipment.

3. Civil Engineer :- An expert who plans, designs, builds, maintains, and operates infrastructure while considering the effects on the environment and public health is known as a civil engineer.

4. Automobile Engineer :- Automotive engineers are specialists who work on the creation of motorbikes, lorries, buses, cars, and other vehicles. Vehicle engineers also work on product design and product modification.

5. Marine Engineer :- Those who design, build, test, and maintain ships, boats, underwater vehicles, offshore platforms, and drilling machinery are known as marine engineers. For the purpose of creating various varieties of sea vessels, a marine engineer frequently collaborates with naval architects.

6.Aeronautical Engineer :- A person who deals with aircraft is known as an aerospace engineer. He or she is primarily concerned in designing propulsion systems for aircraft. An aeronautical engineer also researches the aerodynamic properties of building materials and aeroplanes.
